Job Description

This opportunity is offered by a reputable educational institution dedicated to providing nutritious and well-balanced meals to its students through an efficient and compliant food service program. The institution is committed to maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and customer service in its school cafeterias and satellite kitchen locations. Ensuring students receive healthy food options supports their overall well-being and academic performance, which highlights the importance of each role within the food service department. The institution operates under rigorous regulations including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) and county health codes to maintain cleanliness, food safety, and operational excellence.

The position available is Nutrition/Cook Baker, based at a location to be determined, offering a vital role within the school district’s food service team. Employment is full-time, Monday through Friday, with eight-hour shifts designed to facilitate smooth daily operations at school sites or satellite kitchens servicing multiple locations. The salary for this position ranges between $19.53 and $24.01 per hour across eight steps, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Beyond competitive wages, the role comes with significant benefits such as holiday pay, sick leave, vacation benefits, and prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance. The employee is also covered by a prepaid life insurance plan, prorated to the number of hours worked.

In this role, you will perform a variety of critical food preparation tasks, including cooking, baking, portioning, assembling, and packaging food items that meet standardized menus and recipes. Your responsibilities extend to preparing fruits and vegetables for salad bars, operating commercial kitchen equipment such as food processors, mixers, and slicing machines, and serving food according to strict portion sizes. You will also be entrusted with cash handling and operating a point-of-sale system, contributing to the day-to-day financial accuracy at your assigned site.

The Nutrition/Cook Baker contributes to maintaining the cafeteria's cleanliness and sanitary conditions, adhering to Health Department standards and district policies. Your role supports the food service team by assisting with inventory, food orders, supervising student assistants, and collaborating with custodial and maintenance staff to ensure efficient kitchen operation. You may occasionally substitute for the cafeteria manager, requiring flexibility, leadership, and a commitment to upholding operational standards.

This essential role demands proficiency in food safety practices and the ability to interpret menus, ingredient lists, and standardized recipes accurately. A high school diploma or GED is required, preferably accompanied by a ServSafe certification and at least one year of institutional cooking experience in an educational setting. Strong interpersonal skills are important to provide excellent customer service and work collaboratively within the team. Applicants are encouraged to apply online, where a screening committee will review applications and references, followed by interviews for selected candidates. This continued search process demonstrates the institution’s commitment to finding the right fit to maintain the highest standards in school food services.
