Job Description

Rutgers is currently seeking a Cook B to join the team at Busch Dining Hall located on the New Brunswick campus. This position is full-time, nonexempt, and plays a key role in food preparation and kitchen operations within the university’s busy dining services. The salary range for this role starts from $42,128.85 at the minimum, rising to a mid-range salary of $49,459.55, with a maximum potential salary of $57,112.34. Final salary offers are determined by factors including candidate qualifications, expertise, department funding availability, market benchmarks, and internal equity.

As a Cook B, the individual will be responsible for managing overall cooking operations during the absence of a Cook A, demonstrating leadership in a high-volume food service environment. This position requires preparing food items according to standardized recipes and production schedules, while also guiding and instructing junior kitchen staff including Cook C, Grill Cook, Cook's Helper, and Dining Service Worker B to ensure compliance with institutional procedures. The role requires the ability to work onsite with a standard 40-hour work week in a collaborative team environment. Job Requirements

  • High school or vocational school education or equivalent
  • Two years of varied cooking experience in a large volume institutional or restaurant setting
  • Ability to pass Food Handler’s Certification
  • Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and production sheets
  • Capacity to work full time onsite
  • Membership or willingness to comply with AFSCME Local 888 union policies
  • Availability for a 40 hour work week
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Handle overall cooking operations of the unit in the absence of Cook A
  • Guide and instruct Cook C, Grill Cook, Cook’s Helper, and Dining Service Worker B in performing various cooking operations according to standardized procedures and schedules
  • Perform all duties associated with the cooking group
  • Ensure food quality meets university standards
  • Maintain sanitation and safety protocols in the kitchen
