Job Requirements
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- minimum of one year cooking experience in relevant setting
- state certification or food service license
- ability to follow food safety standards
- ability to work flexible schedules
- good communication skills
- ability to maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area
- ability to work collaboratively with team members
Job Qualifications
- A minimum of one year experience cooking in a restaurant or dietary department of a hospital or similar environment
- general kitchen or dietary experience may be considered
- required State certification or food service license
- high school diploma, GED, or equivalent knowledge and skills
- strong commitment to a caring and respectful environment
- effective communication and teamwork skills
- knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
Job Duties
- Prepares, cooks, and serves food in accordance with the menu and nutrition standards
- samples food for quality assurance prior to service
- ensures foods are cooked and held at appropriate temperatures and records food temperatures
- partners with supervisor to review menus and record necessary substitutions
- ensures food supplies are available and notifies supervisor of needed supplies
- maintains a clean and safe work area, including cleaning spills and scheduled cleaning
- ensures proper storage, rotation, preparation, and labeling of food and discards outdated food
- partners with dietary staff to ensure equipment is working properly and records temperatures
- follows fire safety, infection control, and hazardous chemical practices
- assists in planning and preparing food services for special meals and events
- assists in storing incoming food and supplies
- attends and participates in training, in-services, and staff meetings
- performs other duties as assigned
