Job Description
HOPES CAP, Inc. is a community-focused nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and families through comprehensive programs that address health, education, and socio-economic well-being. With a strong commitment to fostering healthy communities, HOPES CAP offers a variety of initiatives including early childhood education, nutritional support, and family services aimed at creating sustainable and positive impacts. The organization operates with a mission to empower individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency and improve their overall health outcomes.
Joining HOPES CAP, Inc. as a Substitute Cook Assistant offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the Early Childhood Program by supporting meal preparation and service for children. This position is designed as an on-call, per diem role that supports the Cook in providing nutritious meals in compliance with USDA and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. The Substitute Cook Assistant plays a vital role in ensuring that children receive healthy, well-balanced meals while maintaining high standards of food safety and kitchen cleanliness.
The core responsibility of the Substitute Cook Assistant involves assisting in the preparation, setup, and cleanup of meals, including breakfast, lunch, and snacks. This role requires attentiveness to food safety standards and sanitation practices to safeguard the health of children in the program. In addition to meal preparation, the Substitute Cook Assistant is responsible for receiving and inspecting food deliveries to verify accuracy and quality and maintaining kitchen inventory and supplies to support smooth operation.
Beyond the kitchen duties, the position supports broader nutrition activities that engage both children and their families, fostering an environment that promotes healthy eating habits and nutritional awareness. The Substitute Cook Assistant will also actively participate in team meetings, ongoing training, and professional development sessions, which contribute to a collaborative and educational work culture at HOPES CAP.
This role requires flexible availability as it is based on an as-needed schedule, making it ideal for individuals looking for a dynamic work environment with the opportunity to make a direct impact on child nutrition and wellness within the community. While this is a per diem position that does not include company-sponsored health insurance or other benefits, HOPES CAP provides access to employee wellness resources, opportunities for professional growth, and a collaborative workplace culture.
Successful candidates must complete a post-offer physical examination, TB screening, and background checks, including CHRI and CARI clearance, reflecting the organization's commitment to safety and reliability. HOPES CAP, Inc. is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, embracing diversity and inclusion across all facets of employment. This is a meaningful position for anyone passionate about food, nutrition, and making a positive impact through community service.
