Job Description

Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc. (CPLC) is a well-established nonprofit organization dedicated to providing vital community services and support to individuals and families, particularly those from low-income and underserved backgrounds. With a mission to promote self-sufficiency and improve quality of life, CPLC specializes in various educational, housing, health, and economic development programs that empower communities to thrive. Among their key initiatives are Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs aimed at fostering equitable educational opportunities from the very beginning of a child's life. These programs are designed to ensure every child, regardless of their circumstances at birth, has the foundation necessary to succeed in school and life.

CPLC's Early Childhood Development programs focus extensively on delivering full-day, full-year early childhood care and education services specifically catered to children aged 0 to 3 years from low-income families. Additionally, the Migrant Head Start program is crafted to serve children aged 0 to 5 years from migrant and seasonal farmworking families in areas where hand-picked and row crops are predominant. These programs emphasize educationally stimulating learning environments, holistic child development, and active family engagement to promote school readiness and lifelong success.

The role of Cook Assistant is essential to supporting the nutritional and operational aspects of these center-based programs. Under the supervision and guidance of the Cook or Center Service Manager, the Cook Assistant plays a vital part in ensuring that children receive safe, nutritious meals in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including USDA guidelines. This position requires active collaboration with the early childhood team to promote an optimal, healthy learning environment for young children.

The Cook Assistant is responsible for assisting with food preparation, meal service, and kitchen clean-up tasks. Additionally, the role mandates ongoing safety supervision of children by sight and sound, ensuring health protocols are maintained to protect children in varied environments such as school buses, outdoor play areas, and indoor classrooms. By supporting quality food services, this role indirectly fosters school readiness by preparing children and families for successful transitions to formal schooling.

This is a full-time position with a schedule that runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. The position is integral to upholding CPLC's standard of care and is designed for individuals passionate about working in educational settings that serve vulnerable young populations. The opportunity to be part of CPLC means contributing to a culturally diverse and inclusive environment committed to innovation, fairness, and community impact. Employees benefit from a supportive workplace culture that offers competitive benefits and ongoing professional development, empowering staff to excel in roles that make significant social contributions.
