Job Description
Child-Parent Centers, Inc. is a respected organization dedicated to supporting the health, education, and well-being of children and families in the Tucson, Arizona area. With locations including Wright Head Start at 2080 North Columbus Blvd and Santa Rosa Head Start at 1065 South 10th Avenue, Child-Parent Centers, Inc. offers comprehensive services that promote early childhood education and holistic development. As a community-focused entity, it emphasizes nutritious meals, developmental activities, and supportive environments that nurture growth and learning from an early age. Known for its commitment to inclusivity and quality, the organization operates several Head Start centers that serve the educational and nutritional needs of children from diverse backgrounds, embodying a family-style atmosphere in their program delivery.
The Cook Assistant role at Child-Parent Centers plays a pivotal part in the delivery of healthy, nutritious meals in support of the educational mission. This position is entry-level, requiring a high school diploma or GED, with a commitment to working Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, during day shifts from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Although the work is primarily in-person with limited remote eligibility, flexibility to work some evenings and weekends may occasionally be required. The salary for the position is $15.45 per hour.
In this role, the Cook Assistant contributes directly to the food preparation and kitchen maintenance responsibilities at the Head Start kitchens. The assistant supports the Cook with meal prep, food ordering, inventory management, and adherence to strict sanitary and safety standards mandated by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This includes the preparation of "family style" meals served in classrooms, fostering a warm and inviting dining experience for children. Responsibilities also extend to kitchen cleanliness, dishwashing, and compliance with health regulations.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, be comfortable in a semi-commercial kitchen environment, and possess practical math skills necessary for food cost management. Beyond food service, the role promotes teamwork, accountability, and dedication to Child-Parent Centers' mission, offering opportunities for professional growth and development within the supportive framework of the Center Manager supervision. This comprehensive role not only requires operational excellence but also offers an opportunity to impact positively the nutritional health and educational experience of young children in the community, making it an enriching career path for individuals passionate about food service and early childhood education.
