The Cook position at UT Southwestern plays a vital role in daily food preparation and kitchen operations, under general supervision. This role is responsible for preparing hot and cold food items, testing new recipes, managing leftovers, and maintaining cleanliness within the kitchen. Working as part of a dedicated team, the Cook ensures adherence to production guidelines and food safety standards, including HACCP protocols. This position actively supports teamwork and collaboration, interacting courteously with patients, visitors, vendors, and coworkers. The role also requires maintaining accurate production logs and temperature checks, ensuring that all food preparation meets health and safety standards. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in food preparation within a high-volume foodservice operation and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Job Duties
- Completes and maintains all job performance requirements and standards as established by department specific procedures
- consistently follows production guides, menu and assembles food, supplies and equipment for daily preparation of salads, sandwiches
- consistently assembles hot food items as needed
- supports teamwork and cooperation with co-workers in daily activities
- presents constructive feedback regarding system failures and participates in resolution
- interacts positively and courteously with all customers including patients, visitors, vendors and co-workers through direct interaction, telephone conversations or written materials
- maintains HACCP and production logs
- properly temps food and documents information
- turns in logs daily to proper location
- detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food or defective supplies or unusual conditions
- follows procedures for sanitation of work area and equipment during food production
- cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment at end of shift
- consistently cooks or bakes food according to recipe
- assists Cook position as needed with cooking and prepping items
- maintain established department goal for Press Ganey of 95
- maintain a minimum score of 90 on Health Inspections
- maintain a minimum score of 90 on quarterly Gold Check
- performs other duties as assigned
