Job Description

Eastcastle Place is a renowned Senior Living and Health Services Facility with a proud history of serving seniors for over 140 years. Located in a supportive and compassionate environment, Eastcastle Place is dedicated to delivering a continuum of care that not only promotes active and fulfilling lifestyles but also respects the dignity and independence of each resident. The establishment prides itself on its commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences that nourish both body and soul, recognizing that dining is a vital part of residents' daily lives and overall well-being.

The role of Cook at Eastcastle Place is an essential position within the Culinary Services team. This is a part-time opportunity offering 16 hours per week at a competitive wage of $19.00 per hour, with shifts scheduled from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm on Mondays and every other weekend. This non-exempt role requires a skilled and dependable culinary professional who is capable of working independently, demonstrating excellent problem-solving abilities, and maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. As the first cook to arrive onsite in the morning, this individual sets the tone for the day’s meal service, making this role pivotal in ensuring the satisfaction and well-being of the community served.

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving breakfast and lunch, adhering to therapeutic diet requirements, and upholding the exceptional culinary standards that Eastcastle Place is known for. Beyond preparation, the Cook also works in service areas, ensuring that meals are presented and delivered with care and attention. This position demands a minimum of three years of prior cooking experience, ideally gained within hotels, restaurants, clubs, or healthcare environments, which equips the candidate to confidently manage fast-paced service demands while maintaining quality and efficiency.

Eastcastle Place values teamwork, yet the Cook must be particularly comfortable making autonomous decisions to address operational and resident-specific needs promptly. The role involves a variety of cooking techniques including boiling, braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, grilling, steaming, and baking, all executed according to standardized recipes and special diet orders. Planning and coordination of food production to align with meal serving schedules is critical, as is the management of food portions and presentations to meet established standards. Additionally, the Cook is expected to manage inventory by determining the necessary amounts of food and supplies, ensuring they are obtained on time to support uninterrupted kitchen operations.

This employment opportunity emphasizes growth and skill enhancement, with expectations for the Cook to attain proficiency in related roles such as steward and line cook positions, fostering a versatile and resilient kitchen team. Working at Eastcastle Place means joining a community that nurtures both professional and personal development while impacting the lives of some of the most cherished and wise members of society. The role offers a meaningful way to contribute to the happiness and health of senior residents through the universal language of good food and caring service.
