Job Description

Our company is a well-established maritime organization dedicated to ensuring efficient and safe operations aboard our vessels. We specialize in vessel management and operations, serving a vital role in supporting various maritime activities. The company prides itself on maintaining high standards of safety, operational excellence, and crew welfare. Our operations encompass a wide range of duties on the water, requiring skilled and dedicated team members to maintain steady and reliable service under various weather and sea conditions. We operate on a vessel-based schedule with a strong commitment to compliance with US Coast Guard regulations.

We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our crew as a Cook/Seaman Deckhand. This dual-role position involves the preparation of nutritious and well-balanced meals for onboard crew members while also performing essential deckhand and general maintenance duties aboard the vessel. The ideal candidate will have experience in galley operations and be comfortable handling the physical and mental demands of deck duties and maintenance tasks. This full-time position requires the ability to work both indoors and outdoors, often in challenging environments including wet, humid, noisy, and dusty conditions.

As a Cook/Seaman Deckhand, you will play a critical part in maintaining onboard operations by preparing meals that meet nutritional needs without the use of microwave cooking methods, thereby supporting the health and morale of the crew. In addition, you will assist with general maintenance work such as needle gunning and painting to help preserve the vessel’s condition. You will also be required to perform seaman duties such as handling lines, tow wires, and other essential equipment, ensuring the safety and functionality of the vessel’s operations. The role demands strong situational awareness, the ability to follow instructions effectively, and good communication skills with both peers and supervisors.

The position requires a high level of physical fitness, as you will need to climb between vessels and barges, lift and carry equipment, and perform manual tasks that demand coordination and strength. You will be responsible for managing the galley budget meticulously, preparing store lists, and shopping for stores while ensuring costs do not exceed the monthly budget.

To be successful in this role, a valid US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Document with Able Bodied Seaman endorsement, along with the steward’s department endorsement, is required. Candidates with STCW 95 endorsement and a valid driver’s license will have an advantage. We value candidates with culinary schooling or significant galley experience and those who have demonstrated the ability to prepare quality meals without relying on microwave methods. This role also requires sufficient mathematical skills for budget management and the ability to work under varying physical and mental conditions. Attention to detail and safety are paramount, as is the ability to operate tools and maintain a clean and safe galley environment.

This is a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute to the operation and maintenance of our vessels while supporting the welfare and safety of your crewmates. Join our team and help us uphold the standards of excellence that define our company’s maritime operations.
