This job opportunity is for the position of Cook NA-04, located at Marine Corps Base Hawaii - Klipper Grill. This is an excellent role for individuals passionate about food preparation and service within a military community setting. The Cook position requires performing a full range of cooking tasks that involve preparing and cooking a variety of foods, including pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, fresh or canned vegetables, hot cereals, broiled meats, soups, sauces, gravies, and cold sandwich fillings. The role also involves preparing packaged food items for the Grab & Go program, convenience foods, and occasionally baking pizzas. Precision in food preparation, such as peeling, chopping, grinding, slicing, and measuring ingredients according to recipes, is essential. Proper food handling, inventory management, and sanitation are key responsibilities.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in cooking or food preparation preferred
  • Ability to stand continually and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 45 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of cooking methods and procedures for small quantity food preparation
  • Ability to read and understand food service materials such as food labels and standardized recipes
  • Basic arithmetic skills for measuring and multiplying recipe ingredients
  • Knowledge of food characteristics including color, flavor, consistency, texture, temperature, and cooking time
  • Skill in planning and coordinating cooking steps to have menu items ready on time
  • Knowledge of sanitation principles
  • Ability to perform tasks under supervision with spot checks from a supervisor
  • Capability to maintain personal hygiene, safety practices, and sanitation requirements

Job Duties

  • Perform a full range of simple cooking tasks including preparing and cooking items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables
  • Prepare hot cereals, broil meats, prepare and cook soups, sauces, and gravies
  • Make cold sandwich fillings and prepare packaged food for Grab & Go program
  • Prepare convenience items including frozen hash browns, fish fillets, and chicken nuggets
  • Weigh, measure, and dispense foods according to portion controls
  • Set up and replenish salad bar
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Maintain accurate food inventories and rotate stock to prevent spoilage
  • Provide world-class customer service focusing on courtesy and positive communication
  • Adhere to safety regulations and report workplace hazards
  • Assist in catered events and Grab & Go deliveries as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
