Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in food preparation preferred
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Capability to lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted
  • Knowledge of kitchen safety and sanitation practices
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Eligibility to work in a federal environment
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) background check
  • Willingness to comply with drug-free workplace policies

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures
  • Ability to read and understand food service materials such as labels and recipes
  • Basic arithmetic skills for recipe adjustments and serving calculations
  • Knowledge of food characteristics including color, flavor, consistency, texture, temperature, and cooking times
  • Skills in planning and coordinating cooking steps to meet serving times
  • Understanding of sanitation principles

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook simple food items such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables
  • Prepare hot cereals, broil meats, and make soups, sauces, gravies, and cold sandwich fillings
  • Handle convenience food items like frozen hash browns, fish fillets, chicken nuggets, and pizza
  • Perform food preparation tasks including peeling, chopping, grinding, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, and breading
  • Weigh, measure, and dispense foods according to portion controls
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas
  • Manage food inventories and rotate stock items to prevent spoilage
