The position of Cook at the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District is essential in ensuring that every culinary offering maintains the highest standard of quality, taste, and presentation. This hourly role requires the preparation of all food items for multiple dining outlets including the restaurants, room service, employee cafeteria, and banquets. The Cook will follow standardized recipes and uphold rigorous standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and kitchen safety, contributing to a seamless and satisfying dining experience for guests and staff alike. This role also demands efficiency in minimizing waste while maximizing the cost-to-production ratio, showcasing both culinary skill and operational awareness.
As a Cook, the successful candidate will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks from food preparation and buffet display to kitchen cleanliness and proper food storage. They will work closely with the Chef and Kitchen Supervisor to prepare special dishes, adhere to health and safety regulations, maintain kitchen equipment, and support other kitchen positions when needed. The role requires the ability to work flexible and sometimes long hours, demonstrating stamina and resilience amidst temperature variations and physical demands. Candidates with culinary experience and a solid grasp of various cooking techniques, including charbroiling, poaching, deep-frying, sautéing, braising, roasting, and par-cooking, will thrive in this dynamic and fast-paced environment. - High school diploma or equivalent
- culinary experience
- ability to work flexible and long hours
- medium work exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently
- ability to stand for entire shift
- ability to withstand hot and cold temperature variations

Job Duties
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all storage areas
- complete necessary food and station preparation prior to restaurant opening
- prepare and display buffet food items according to hotel standards
- recognize quality standards in fresh vegetables, fish, dairy and meat products
- maintain clean and sanitary environment with knowledge of proper handling, storage, and sanitation
- prepare food for banquets following banquet event orders
- prepare and service food for the employee cafeteria
- prepare all foods following hotel standard recipes
- prepare specials under direction of Chef or Kitchen Supervisor
- breakdown buffets and kitchen line, store food and equipment properly
- work banquet food station as scheduled
- know location and operation of fire extinguishing equipment
- practice safe work habits
- use production charts
- support any position in the kitchen as needed
- follow health department and company regulations
- operate and maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment
- maintain a clean as you go policy
- assist in storage and rotation of food items
- sign keys out and in under supervision
