This full-time opportunity at the Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center is for a skilled Food Handler responsible for preparing all center meals according to pre-planned menus, adhering strictly to government and management regulations. This role is critical in ensuring that nutritious, safe, and visually appealing meals are served to the center’s residents and staff. The Food Handler will assist in instructing kitchen helpers and work-based learning students on safe food preparation and hygiene practices, reinforcing the center’s commitment to health and safety standards. The position offers a competitive wage of $18.89 per hour and operates generally from 5:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with varying days and occasional overtime, providing a consistent and predictable work schedule.

The Food Handler plays a vital role in maintaining kitchen equipment, ensuring all tools and work areas remain clean, sanitary, and in workable condition. This includes responsibility for food stockroom commodities, recommending replenishments, and supporting positive customer service throughout the facility. The position occasionally requires preparation of special meals for center events and visitors, demonstrating flexibility and the ability to meet special requests. The role also involves assisting with cleaning assignments to support cafeteria operations, emphasizing teamwork and attention to detail.

A successful candidate must have at least a high school diploma or equivalent and possess one year of experience as a food handler. Certification in ServSafe or a comparable food handler certification is mandatory, either prior to employment or obtained within 30 days after hire. Physical ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record are additional requirements for this position.
