The Department of Food and Nutrition at Barnes-Jewish Hospital plays a vital role in supporting patient outcomes and satisfaction by providing comprehensive food services across its North and South Campus locations. This department includes patient meal delivery, Clinical Nutrition Services, the Queeny Tower Restaurant, three cafeterias, and three coffee bars. The goal is to meet the nutritional needs of patients, visitors, and staff by delivering exceptional customer service and high standards of food quality.
Currently, Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as full-time Cooks. The position operates during the 1 PM to 9:30 PM shift and includes rotating weekends and holidays. This role offers a sign-on bonus of $1000, along with daily pay. Cooks are responsible for food preparation activities such as pre-preparation and cooking of both hot and cold foods adhering to all dietary requirements, including special diets and food safety standards.
In this role, cooks will engage in tasks including chopping, slicing, dicing, pureeing, marinating, and preparing a wide range of ingredients using various cooking techniques such as sautéing, broiling, braising, baking, grilling, deep-fat frying, steaming, and blanching. They ensure proper portioning, food storage, labeling, and temperature control to maintain food quality and safety. Cooks at Barnes-Jewish Hospital also contribute to maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen by routinely cleaning equipment, appliances, and workspaces.
This position welcomes candidates of all skill levels, including those with no prior experience. Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, less than two years of experience, and ServSafe Certification.
