Job Description

Harborview Medical Center is a renowned healthcare institution offering a comprehensive range of specialized medical services. Harborview's Food and Nutrition department plays a crucial role in supporting the hospital's mission by delivering compassionate, evidence-based care through nutritious and freshly prepared food. The department aims to offer unforgettable customer service experiences to patients, families, and the greater community. Within this context, Harborview is currently seeking a dedicated Cook 2 to join its team. This full-time, temporary role spans 40 hours per week with a fixed duration of six months and operating hours primarily from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm on variable days.

The Cook 2 position is a vital role responsible for preparing high-quality, accurate meals tailored to patients' dietary needs as outlined in standardized recipes. The position requires strict adherence to infection control procedures as well as maintenance of cleanliness in the cooking area and equipment. Responsibilities include tray assembly coordination, managing supplies necessary to prepare trays, and notifying supervisory staff of any shortages or issues. The role demands excellent guest relations skills, supporting the hospitality model, and embodying the mission, vision, and values of UW Medicine Health System. In return for the commitment and skills required, the position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $21.77 to $27.63, with access to a comprehensive benefits program.

Job Duties

  • Prepares accurate, high-quality food for patients to order following standardized recipes and procedures
  • keeps station and cooking equipment clean following all infection control procedures
  • begins and ends tray assembly including service ware, condiments, hot and cold items as they are finished by Line and Cold Pantry Cooks
  • identifies product needs and requisitions items required to prepare tray assembly
  • notifies Sous Chef in advance of expected shortages
  • prepares all lunch/dinner orders accurately and efficiently following food preparation procedures
