The Role: As a Cook II (Part Time) in the Food & Beverage department, reporting to the Executive Chef, Executive Sous Chef, or Sous Chef, you will play a critical role in preparing high-quality food items timely and efficiently. This position focuses on creating a variety of menu items such as entrées, salads, appetizers, sandwiches, and more in compliance with established food safety and sanitation standards. Being a non-exempt position, the role demands energy, enthusiasm, and attention to detail to support food preparation consistency across multiple events. Primary duties include cooking using various methods such as sautéing, grilling, and carving, portioning and arranging dishes, preparing buffet meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and distributing food to banquet servers. Additionally, the role supports training new kitchen staff to help maintain high standards in food preparation and kitchen operations. Physical demands involve considerable standing, walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and handling hot cooking equipment safely. The Cook II position requires adherence to local food codes and safety regulations, good personal hygiene, and professional conduct at all times. You will be working on-site at the Broward County Convention Center, within a moderately noisy but highly dynamic environment. Job Requirements

  • High school degree/GED or equivalent
  • one year certificate from culinary school or comparable experience
  • at least two years of experience in a food and beverage environment
  • ability to work with limited supervision
  • must have a professional attitude and appearance
  • must always maintain a professional and helpful attitude
  • must have good eye-hand coordination to work with knives and hot cooking equipment
  • must maintain good personal hygiene
  • ability to read and interpret recipes and prep list
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • must adhere to local food codes

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Sauté, grill, and carve food
  • prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to recipes and event specifications
  • portion and arrange food on serving dishes

  • measure and mix ingredients to make soups, sauces, and other dishes following recipes
