The role of the Cook in this patient food services department is a full-time position that requires a skilled professional to prepare hot and cold food items for the patient tray line, cafeteria, and catered events. The Cook will be responsible for setting up food stations, maintaining an organized workspace, monitoring food temperatures to ensure safety, and upholding the quality and accuracy of recipes. This role is critical in supporting the smooth operation of meal services and directly impacts the patient experience by providing nutritious and appetizing food options. Attention to detail in food preparation and sanitation practices are essential, and the Cook must be capable of performing multiple tasks under pressure while maintaining a high level of professionalism. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum one year food service experience with demonstrated cooking or chef experience in a fast-paced, high production kitchen
  • Food Handler's Certification from Riverside County Public Health Department required upon hire date
  • Able to safely operate kitchen and cafeteria cooking equipment
  • Able to perform simple math functions
  • Able to manage multiple assignments effectively
  • Able to organize and prioritize workload
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Able to problem solve
  • Able to recall information
  • Able to pay close attention to detail
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to read, write and speak English

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Culinary training with Chef Certification or Associate Degree in Culinary Arts highly preferred
  • Minimum one year food service experience with demonstrated cooking or chef experience in a fast-paced, high production kitchen
  • Prior healthcare cooking experience preferred
  • Able to safely operate kitchen and cafeteria cooking equipment
  • Problem solving and multitasking skills
  • Competent in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Food Handler's Certification required
  • SafeServ Managers certification preferred

Job Duties

  • Prepare hot and cold food items for patient tray line, cafeteria and catered events according to menu and production forecast
  • Set up hot and cold food stations and serve food for patient tray line
  • Ensure accuracy and quality acceptability of recipes and food items produced
  • Monitor food temperatures to ensure food safety
  • Assist with maintaining overall cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen area
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • Participate in training new employees and dietetic students
