Job Description

Hope Ministries is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to serving individuals and families in need through various programs that focus on spiritual growth, practical assistance, and community support. With a mission deeply rooted in Christian faith, Hope Ministries seeks to demonstrate God's love in tangible ways by providing essential services such as food assistance, shelter, and mentoring to vulnerable populations. The organization prides itself on creating a compassionate and respectful environment for all those it serves, fostering a culture of inclusivity, dignity, and hope. Hope Ministries operates a Food Services department responsible for preparing nutritious meals and managing food resources to support its community outreach programs effectively. This department plays a vital role in ensuring that clients receive well-balanced and enjoyable meals while adhering to high standards of cleanliness and safety as per industry and state regulations.

The role of Cook at Hope Ministries is a part-time position that requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about both culinary skills and ministry work. This position involves working 24 hours per week primarily on weekends, including Saturdays and Sundays, with shifts from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM and providing necessary breaks for meal and spiritual observance. The Cook is responsible not only for preparing nutritious meals but also for supervising and teaching kitchen work skills participants, thereby empowering them with valuable culinary knowledge. The role demands meticulous attention to detail in food preparation, menu planning using both donated and purchased inventory, and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, dining, and food storage areas. Moreover, the Cook acts as a steward of donated products, ensuring their proper use and reporting their value to the Food Services Manager.

The Cook at Hope Ministries also plays a unique role in embodying and sharing the organization’s Christian values. This includes engaging in spiritual growth activities such as mentoring, sharing Scripture, and praying with program participants in various settings. The environment is one of mutual respect, cooperation among staff, and a clear focus on creating a safe and secure space for clients and employees alike.

This position reports directly to the Food Services Manager and requires someone who can handle the pressure and responsibility of institutional cooking for large groups while maintaining a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Cook must ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, manage food inventory efficiently, and communicate effectively with management regarding supplies and any equipment issues. Additionally, this role occasionally includes driving the ministry vehicle to collect donated food items, contributing to the sustainability and success of the food services program.

Working at Hope Ministries as a Cook means being part of a compassionate team that values not just culinary excellence but also spiritual enrichment and community impact. It is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to an organization that prioritizes both nourishment of the body and the soul, making each meal served a reflection of faith and kindness. Those interested in this role should embody the organization's mission, core values, and statement of faith, demonstrating both professional cooking expertise and a heart for service.
