White Plains Hospital Medical Center is a renowned healthcare institution located in White Plains, New York. This position is part of the WPH - 1199 SEIU bargaining unit and involves working evening shifts, mainly from Monday to Friday, with alternating weekends and holidays. The scheduled hours are from 11 AM to 7 PM, totaling 75 hours per pay period. The pay rate for this role is fixed at $25.40 per hour. This role is essential in supporting the hospital’s food nutrition services and meal program "Catering to You," which caters to the specific dietary needs of hospital patients and guests. The incumbent will engage in various culinary tasks including hot food production, cold food preparation, stocking, meal assembly, and cafeteria service.
The role requires adherence to established standards for sanitation, food handling, and safety, including HACCP and recipe guidelines. Employees must demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with departmental policies and performance standards, maintaining a professional demeanor in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Duties also include pot and dish cleaning, delivery of food services, and ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly in all assigned functions. Staff are expected to attend meetings and training sessions to stay updated on hospital and department initiatives and complete annual competency requirements.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant culinary or food service experience preferred
- Ability to read and understand menus and recipes
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining composure
- Ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines
- Willingness to work evening shifts including weekends and holidays
- Must wear provided uniform and identification badge
- Completion of required competency training
Job Qualifications
- High school required or
- GED required or
- Certificate culinary degree or certificate program preferred or
- 4-6 years culinary experience in healthcare/restaurant/hotel preferred or
- 1-3 years culinary degree or certificate program preferred
- Must be able to read a menu and menu ticket ability to read a recipe ability to work under pressure ability to maintain an even temperament in stressful situations (high proficiency)
- Culinary certificate preferred
Job Duties
- Adheres to WPH performance standards policies and behaviors
- Punches in/out as required based on assigned work schedule
- Reports to kitchen ready to work in uniform as provided with visible identification badge
- Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of responsibilities of the assigned positions
- Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department policies and procedures
- Attends staff meetings in-service or equivalent to update knowledge related to current department/hospital issues as required or requested
- Completes annual department/hospital competency requirements and they are documented appropriately on competency/education record
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
