The role of Cook at Holy Cross Hospital - West Valley is integral to supporting the nutrition and dietary needs of patients, staff, and visitors within the healthcare environment. This position involves preparing food in compliance with safe cooking techniques as well as strict adherence to state and federal regulations related to food safety and therapeutic diet requirements. The Cook will be responsible for following healthcare foodservice industry standards to ensure that all meals served meet the necessary nutritional and safety specifications. The role requires meticulous attention to quality control, including recipe adherence and consistency in food quality, to deliver meals that support patient recovery and satisfaction.

This full-time position offers an hourly pay rate ranging from $17.00 to $22.71, reflecting the importance of the role within the hospital's foodservice team. Responsibilities extend beyond meal preparation to include maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in all cooking and serving areas to comply with health and safety standards. The successful candidate will utilize kitchen utensils and equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens, fryers, steamers, stovetops, and grills to produce safe, nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs, including modifications for food allergies and therapeutic diets. Additional duties may be assigned by leadership to support the overall operations of the foodservice department.

Job Requirements

  • One year foodservice experience
  • high school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • if a food handlers permit is a requirement by your state, county or local health code, it must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • physical ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally, and or up to 20 pounds frequently, and or up to 10 pounds constantly

Job Duties

  • Prepares and serves food within guidelines of menu and dietary requirements, using required kitchen utensils and equipment such as slicers, mixers, ovens, fryers, steamers, stove tops, and grills
  • modifies preparations to account for food allergies
  • follows healthcare foodservice industry standards, regulations, guidelines and procedures including monitoring and maintaining food temperatures during cooking, holding, and storage processes
  • avoids cross-contamination of foods and adheres to personal hygiene requirements
  • maintains labeling and storage of food, equipment, and machinery
  • performs washing and cleaning duties to ensure sanitation and cleanliness in cooking and serving areas
  • other duties as assigned by leader
