As the only center in Florida with this prestigious designation, Moffitt attracts some of the best and brightest minds from around the globe who are dedicated to shaping the future of cancer care. The institution employs nearly 11,000 professionals and has been consistently honored as a Best and Brightest Company to Work For in the Nation, as well as a Top Workplace by the Tampa Bay Times. Tampa itself is a vibrant metropolitan city that supports groundbreaking research and offers a rich cultural experience, making it an attractive location for both professional and personal growth.

The Food Service Cook position at Moffitt Cancer Center is a vital role within the Food Service department that supports high quality food production, safety, and service for patients, guests, and staff. This role is not only essential for the daily operation of the center’s dietary services but also contributes to the larger mission of cancer prevention and survivorship through nutrition support and research. The Food Service Cook works in the Population Engagement and Research Lab (PEARL), where they help produce food that supports dietary studies pivotal to cancer research. This position requires a strong focus on food safety, sanitation, and service excellence, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.

This role offers a flexible daytime schedule and the unique opportunity to work alongside talented chefs and research faculty at the forefront of therapeutic nutrition research. The ideal candidate is adaptable, possesses excellent food safety knowledge, has proficient knife skills, and demonstrates a cooperative and professional attitude. The position demands a commitment to safety, quality, efficiency, and customer service, with responsibilities that include preparing food according to recipes, cleaning food service equipment, and maintaining safety and sanitation standards at all times. This role also involves understanding modified diets, emphasizing specialized food preparation tailored to patient and research participant needs.

Applicants should have a minimum of three years of relevant cooking experience in high volume kitchens, preferably with from-scratch cooking expertise. Alternatively, candidates with a High School Diploma or GED and two years of relevant experience may also qualify. Knowledge of cooking techniques, temperature control, and storage procedures is essential, as is the ability to follow oral and written instructions in English to maintain food safety standards. The position requires physical stamina, as frequent standing, bending, lifting, and other physical activities are involved.

Moffitt Cancer Center offers a competitive salary range for this position, between $16.50 and $24.04 per hour, reflecting factors such as experience, skills, education, and internal equity. Employees benefit from a comprehensive compensation package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, retirement plans, parental leave, and several other benefits aimed at supporting work-life balance and wellbeing. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Moffitt is committed to diversity and inclusion, providing accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to ensure equitable employment opportunities.

Joining Moffitt means becoming part of a community dedicated not just to a career but to a mission that impacts lives every day.
