The Cook position at Cedarhurst is a vital role within the Dining Services team, reporting directly to the Dining Services Director. The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, high-quality, and appealing meals that satisfy both the dietary needs and preferences of the residents. This role ensures that food preparation aligns with the hospitality and service standards of the community, enhancing the overall resident experience. The position demands adherence to strict food safety and infection control standards, as maintaining the health and wellbeing of the residents is paramount.

In this role, the Cook coordinates meal production to ensure meals are served timely and at appropriate temperatures, accommodating special dietary requirements as directed. Additionally, the Cook plays an integral part in kitchen organization and cleanliness and supports the orientation and training of new kitchen staff. Working collaboratively with the Dining Services Director and other community team members, the Cook helps foster a welcoming and safe environment focused on resident satisfaction and comfort. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • at least one year experience as a cook preferred
  • food manager certification or ability to obtain
  • applicable state/county licensure
  • ability to follow infection prevention and control protocols
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • at least one (1) year experience as a cook is preferred
  • applicable state/county licensure required
  • food manager certification, or ability to obtain, is required
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred
  • demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable

Job Duties

  • Ensure the proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods as indicated on the menu cycle and standardized recipes
  • taste and prepare food to determine quality
  • prepare all special dietary needs as directed by the Dining Services Director and/or menus assigned
  • determine food and supplies needed and coordinate meal production with serving hours
  • assist with proper documentation of temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules
  • assist with orientation and training of new kitchen staff
  • handle food in a safe and appropriate manner
