Job Description

Allina Health is a reputable not-for-profit health system dedicated to providing exceptional care to individuals, families, and communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin. The organization emphasizes patient-centered services that focus on whole person care—addressing mind, body, spirit, and community to enhance well-being and enrich the professional growth of its staff. With a mission to prevent illness, restore health, and bring comfort, Allina Health stands as a trusted healthcare provider deeply invested in nurturing the passion and dedication of its employees.

Allina Health operates various departments that support its comprehensive healthcare delivery, including Food Services at Abbott Northwestern. The Food Services team plays a critical role in supporting the well-being and recovery of patients through nutritious, safe, and appetizing meal preparation. The current opportunity is a part-time Food Service Worker role based at the Receiving Dock located at 2800 10th Ave in Minneapolis, MN.

This position offers flexible scheduling options with 16 to 32 hours per week, including 4-hour and 8-hour shifts during days and evenings, and participation in every other weekend rotation. The Food Service Worker will be employed under the SEIU-4-Abbott Northwestern Service Workers union contract, providing a structured working environment.

As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for the preparation and serving of food to patients, staff, and customers, ensuring adherence to proper cooking, cooling, and reheating techniques that meet food safety standards. Duties include preparing food using standardized recipes, understanding special dietary needs after consulting with dietitians, and adequately stocking food supplies. You will also partake in sanitizing practices for food, equipment, and personal hygiene to uphold health regulations. Additionally, the role may involve assisting with grocery orders, operating a cash register, and potentially contributing to menu development.

Candidates for this position must be at least 18 years old and possess the education or experience needed to meet required job competencies. While a high school diploma or GED is preferred, individuals with vocational or associate degrees in the culinary field are highly encouraged to apply. Experience in food service ranging from entry-level up to two years will be beneficial, alongside preferred certification in Food Safety and Handling upon hire.

This role demands medium physical work, including the occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs and frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, reflecting the physical nature of food preparation duties.

Compensation ranges from $22.49 to $29.25 per hour, with starting pay contingent on experience, education, and union agreements. Additional pay differentials may apply for shifts and weekend work.

Working at Allina Health comes with comprehensive benefits focused on supporting the complete well-being of employees. The benefits package includes medical and dental insurance, paid time off, retirement savings plans, life insurance, disability coverage, voluntary benefits like vision and legal services, tuition reimbursement, student loan support, and more. The organization fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace through employee resource groups and invests in community engagement and volunteering opportunities, making it a stimulating and supportive environment for career growth.
