The Cook position at HMSHost is a vital role within the company’s dynamic kitchen teams. This role involves preparing cooked foods and mastering various station functions such as Fry, Flat Top Griddle, Pantry, and cooking eggs. The Cook is responsible for following precise recipes and product directions to prepare, season, cook, taste, and serve a diverse range of food items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food and beverage products. Essential to the role is maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards to comply with HACCP protocols, ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. A successful Cook at HMSHost is expected to communicate efficiently regarding ticket times and any potential issues to both the manager on duty and servers, contributing to smooth kitchen operations and excellent customer service.
This role requires a minimum of one year of closely related cooking experience, ideally gained within high-volume, casual dining environments. Cooks must possess knowledge of food preparation techniques across multiple cooking styles, including soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry. Physical demands include the ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds and to work standing for extended periods in hot conditions. The position is non-exempt and offers an hourly wage of $17.00. Job Requirements
- Food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
- Minimum of 1 year closely related cooking experience
- Experience in high volume and casual dining preferred
- Knowledge of soups, sauté, broiler, fry, and pantry cooking techniques
- Ability to speak, read, and comprehend instructions and correspondence
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
- Ability to bend, twist, and stand as needed
- Ability to work in hot environments
- Frequent use of sharp knives and hot plates
- Frequent immersion of hands in water or chemical solutions

Job Duties
- Prepare cooked foods following recipes and product directions
- Perform station functions including fry, flat top griddle, pantry, and cooking eggs
- Communicate ticket times and potential issues to manager and servers
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment
- Follow excellent food safety and sanitation practices in compliance with HACCP standards
- Operate kitchen equipment and handle ingredients such as washing, peeling, cutting, and shredding fruits and vegetables
- Stock, date, rotate, and check temperature of food products
