This full-time Cook position is based at Whitworth University and offers a pay range of $20 to $22 per hour. The role involves preparing, cooking, and presenting a wide variety of hot and cold food items for different meal periods and events, adhering to Sodexo's culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency. The Cook will work afternoon and evening shifts on varying days, with specific schedules provided during the interview process. This role is critical to maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment while ensuring all food products are prepared safely, accurately, and efficiently. Cooks play a vital role in delivering an exceptional dining experience by producing high-quality dishes and contributing to effective teamwork in a fast-paced kitchen setting. Additionally, the position requires compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, supporting Sodexo's commitment to excellence.

The responsibilities include preparing foods according to relevant federal, state, and corporate guidelines; following recipes for seasoning, cooking, odor, tasting, carving, and serving; estimating food requirements and planning production; and maintaining physical stamina to perform tasks such as standing and walking for long periods, lifting weights up to 50 pounds, bending, and repetitive motions. The role also requires dependability regarding attendance and punctuality. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Good working knowledge of food preparation
  • Requires familiarity of kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Follow basic recipes and or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • Significant walking or other means of mobility
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time, throughout the entire duration of a shift, which may exceed 8 hours
  • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift move 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions
  • Attends work and shows for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity
  • Other duties may be assigned and can differ among accounts, depending on business necessities and client requirements
