The role of Cook is a full-time position based in Charlotte, NC, with a schedule that requires flexibility to work various shifts, including Monday through Saturday with split shifts and Sundays. The position offers an hourly wage ranging between $20.00 and $22.51, reflecting the value placed on skilled culinary professionals who contribute to the community's dining excellence. The Cook will play a critical role within the Culinary Services Department, responsible for hands-on, full-scope production cooking that adheres to high standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
This position demands culinary versatility and efficiency as the Cook will be expected to operate all kitchen stations, prepare a variety of dishes following standardized recipes, and maintain the highest quality of food served to residents and guests. The Cook's duties include preparing soups, stocks, sauces, boiling, braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, grilling, steaming, and baking. The right candidate will manage food production timelines, coordinate with meal serving hours, and ensure food temperature and appearance are preserved. They must also be adept at inventory management by determining daily food and supply needs and ensuring timely acquisition for smooth meal production.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- minimum three years experience as a cook in hotel, restaurant, or similar institution
- ability to work flexible hours including weekends
- ability to stand for extended periods
- capacity to handle kitchen equipment safely
- basic math skills
- ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately
- willingness to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Job Qualifications
- SERVSafe certification preferred
- experience in hospital or senior living preferred
- ability to perform simple arithmetic and understand measurements and conversions
- minimum of three years experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
- ability to plan and organize work
- ability to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
- knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance
- some knowledge of nutrition and diet
- ability to effectively communicate, read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English
Job Duties
- Ability to work all stations in the kitchen
- efficiently runs assigned station during the shift and follow all specs
- stock food as needed
- maintains the quality of food and plate presentation
- prepares all soups, stocks, sauces
- boils, braises and roasts items as per standardized recipes
- prepares and serves all sautéed, fried, grilled, steamed and baked items as per standardized recipes
- prepares or directs the preparation of all food served following standard recipes and special diet orders
- plans food production to coordinate with meal serving hours to preserve excellence, quality, temperature and appearance
- determines amount and type of food and supplies required for daily menus and ensures supplies are obtained in adequate time for meal production
