Job Description

Tri-County Office on Aging (TCOA) is a respected nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for older adults in the Lansing, Michigan area. TCOA provides a wide array of community services centered on aging populations, including nutrition programs, outreach, and social support. The central kitchen serves as the heart of TCOA's food production efforts, where meals are prepared daily to support various service programs aimed at older adults.\n\nThe Cook position at TCOA’s Central Kitchen in Lansing is a vital role responsible for food production activities. Reporting directly to the Food Production Supervisor, this position involves preparing meals in compliance with specific recipes and dietary requirements within established timelines. The role demands collaboration with the Food Production Coordinator, Supervisor, and Manager to meet daily production targets and ensure quality output for program participants. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm, this full-time position offers a competitive wage of $16.94 per hour as well as a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include a 100% employer-paid pension, generous paid time off, and 14 paid holidays per year.\n\nThis position requires operating food processing equipment, inspecting raw materials for quality, packaging and labeling finished products properly, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in compliance with health department regulations. The cook will also perform minor maintenance on equipment and coordinate efficiently with team members to ensure smooth production flow. The role requires the ability to record production data accurately for traceability and quality assurance purposes. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of cooking experience. Additionally, completion or pursuit of a Food Service Manager Certification Training Program approved by the National Restaurant Association is mandatory within six months of employment. Job Duties

  • Coordinate with food production staff and supervisors for daily production planning
  • complete food preparation from recipes per TCOA guidelines to meet production needs and special dietary requirements
  • operate food processing equipment and machinery to mix, blend, or process ingredients
  • monitor and adjust production processes or equipment for quality and productivity
  • inspect raw materials and finished products for quality standards and remove defective items
  • package, label, and seal food products according to company and regulatory requirements
  • clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, and containers
  • record production and test data for food batches to ensure traceability
  • coordinate with team members to manage efficient flow of materials and products
  • perform minor maintenance on machinery to ensure continuous production
  • assure compliance with health department standards in all duties
  • perform additional tasks as assigned or required
