The role of Cook at Cascadia Healthcare is vital to supporting the overall mission of enhancing resident health and satisfaction through carefully prepared nutritional meals. This position involves preparing and serving food that adheres to proper food handling and safety protocols, ensuring that meals meet both regular and therapeutic diet requirements. The Cook is responsible not only for food preparation but also for presenting meals in an appetizing way and maintaining strict hygiene and cleanliness standards. The job involves working closely with the Culinary Manager and other team members to prepare meals for the residents, staff, and special events.
The Cook must demonstrate expertise in quantity food production and the ability to adapt menus to accommodate individual resident preferences and dietary restrictions. Key responsibilities include following standardized recipes, maintaining accurate records of food temperatures and inventory, and ensuring equipment is clean, safe, and operational. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, display patience and professionalism, and work cooperatively within a team to provide high-quality food services.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- ServSafe Food Safety Certification required
- food handlers permit if required per state regulations
- six months’ experience in large quantity food preparation
- experience with therapeutic diet preparation preferred
- six months experience in a long term care environment preferred
- must be at least 18 years of age due to federal child labor laws

Job Duties
- Prepares food for regular and therapeutic diets according to a planned menu, prepares alternative items to meet residents’ individual needs and preferences, uses proper food handling and food safety techniques, makes only authorized menu changes and records them, ensures food tastes good and is served attractively, utilizes standardized recipes for menu items, delivers meals and snacks according to schedules, ensures proper food quantities are prepared and pre-portioned, maintains food temperatures and records them, serves resident meals/snacks accurately, uses correct portion control utensils, labels and stores food properly, monitors refrigerator/freezer temperatures and logs them, washes dishes and kitchen items according to procedures, keeps work area clean and uncluttered, performs cleaning assignments using proper chemicals, uses protective equipment and follows infection control techniques, ensures dishes and kitchen items are ready and stored properly, assists in receiving and verifying food and supplies invoices, reports inadequate stock levels, uses supplies and equipment efficiently to prevent waste, maintains kitchen security, performs all duties with proper safety techniques, operates and maintains kitchen equipment, completes tasks on schedule, recommends improvements to Culinary Manager, works cooperatively as a team member, interacts positively with residents, families, and visitors, ensures punctuality and regular attendance
