The Cook position at Keystone Treatment Center in Canton, South Dakota is a vital role within the facility's food service department, responsible for preparing and serving nutritious and appealing meals to patients and staff. This position requires a genuine passion for supporting individuals affected by substance use disorders and mental health challenges through quality food service. Under general direction, the Cook will implement approved menus, coordinate meal preparation, and oversee workers assisting with food service tasks. The role demands attention to detail, adherence to health and safety standards, and collaboration with Food Service leadership and dietitians to ensure menus are varied, balanced, and appetizing. The Cook must maintain cleanliness and operational standards within kitchen equipment and work areas, take inventory of supplies, and comply with policies related to quality, cost control, and regulatory requirements. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Additional education or training in the culinary field preferred
  • Two or more years experience in food service role in preparing food for institutions such as school, hospital or cafeteria preferred
  • ServSafe Certification or similar food safety certification, where required by the state, facility

Job Duties

  • Cook and prepare food according to approved menus
  • Direct activities of workers who assist in preparing and serving meals
  • Clean and inspect equipment, kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation
  • Take inventory of supplies and equipment
  • Work with Food Service leadership or Dietitian to ensure menus are varied, nutritionally balanced and appetizing
  • Perform and coordinate food production, cleaning, maintenance, and inventory control activities
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, quality standards, cost parameters, and appropriate regulatory requirements
