Job Description

Next Step Healthcare is a dedicated healthcare provider known for its compassionate and resident-focused care. Operating locally and independently, Next Step Healthcare prioritizes creating an environment that goes beyond simply meeting the basic needs of its residents. The organization values heartfelt commitment and strives to deliver exceptional healthcare services with an emphasis on respect, safety, and teamwork. Their approach fosters a unique culture where compassion and accountability blend seamlessly to support a positive experience for residents, their families, and the entire care team. As a healthcare facility that is locally owned and operated, they understand the importance of personalized care and community involvement, aiming to set the standard for healthcare excellence in the region.

The role of a Cook at Next Step Healthcare reflects the organization's deep commitment to quality and resident well-being. This position is available both full time and part time with competitive pay ranging from $21.50 to $22.60 per hour, and sign-on plus retention bonuses of $2,000 for full time and $1,000 for part time cooks. The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food in large quantities according to specified diets, menu cycles, and consistency requirements. This role is key to ensuring that meal quality aligns with established dietary standards and federal, state, and local regulations. The successful candidate will monitor food handling methods, equipment cleanliness, and overall kitchen safety practices. Beyond food preparation, this role promotes a culture of safety and teamwork, reacting decisively in emergencies and contributing to a respectful and responsive environment that supports both co-workers and residents.

The Cook will work closely with the Food Service Director to understand all necessary steps and standards involved in meal preparation. Key tasks include reading and following menus and recipes accurately, determining food quantities for meal preparation, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. A significant part of the role is maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment while promoting quality improvement activities such as QAPI as requested. Confidentiality is also critical, as the Cook must protect sensitive Protected Health Information (HIPAA) at all times.

This position requires strong organizational and critical thinking skills, along with effective interpersonal communication to collaborate well with fellow team members and meet the expectations of residents and families. The ideal candidate is a team player who is adaptable, dependable, and committed to maintaining a resident-centered approach in all their duties. For those who are passionate about culinary arts within a healthcare setting and want to make a difference in people's lives, this opportunity at Next Step Healthcare offers a fulfilling and supportive workplace.

Benefits for this role include paid time off encompassing vacation, sick, and holiday leave, medical coverage, flexible spending accounts (FSA), dental and vision insurance plans, life insurance, and participation in a 401(k) retirement plan. Additional perks enhance the employee experience through life assistance programs, home and auto insurance discounts, wireless discounts with Verizon, and entertainment discounts such as Six Flags. The supportive benefits package and culture of respect provide a motivated environment for professional growth and personal fulfillment within the healthcare food service sector.
