The Cook position at HMSHost plays a vital role in maintaining the company’s high standards of food preparation and customer service. This non-exempt role offers an hourly wage of $19.00 and includes various benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, meal and transportation benefits, 401(k) with company match, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance programs, and career development opportunities. As a cook, you will be responsible for preparing cooked foods across various stations including fry, flat top griddle, pantry, and eggs.
The role requires adherence to recipes and food safety standards including HACCP compliance, the ability to communicate effectively with management and service staff, and the aptitude to perform multiple kitchen tasks efficiently. You will be responsible for tasting and seasoning foods, managing food production and inventory, cleaning and sanitizing workstations, and operating kitchen equipment safely. The ability to handle a fast-paced work environment, manage various kitchen duties, and maintain quality service is essential.
HMSHost seeks candidates with at least one year of related cooking experience, preferably in high-volume or casual dining restaurants. Job Requirements
- Requires food preparation skills and knowledge of HACCP standards
- Requires a minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience
- Requires food knowledge pertaining to Soups, Saute, Broiler, Fry, and Pantry
- Requires the ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with customers
- Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
- Requires the ability to bend, twist, and stand to perform normal job functions
- Frequently immerses hands in water and water diluted with chemical solutions
- Frequently works with sharp knives, utensils, and hot plates
- Frequently works in hot environment
Job Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of closely related cooking experience, work experience in high volume and casual dining restaurant environment preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation skills and HACCP standards
- Knowledge pertaining to Soups, Saute, Broiler, Fry, and Pantry
- Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with customers
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds

Job Duties
- Follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other food and beverage products
- Taste products, follow menus, estimate food requirements, check production and keep records to plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment as needed
- Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment
- Practice excellent food safety and sanitation practices and comply with HACCP standards
- Operate a variety of kitchen equipment
- Measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables
- Stock, date, rotate, and check temperature of product
