Job Description

The Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) under the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) Division is a respected part of the United States Marine Corps family, dedicated to providing vital services and support to Marines, Sailors, and their families. This particular role is for a Cook position located at various locations within DoWEA. The Cook’s primary responsibility is to perform simple cooking tasks and prepare a variety of foods including pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, gravies, and sandwiches. This position demands attention to detail, as food quality and adherence to schedules are evaluated. The work also involves routine physical activities such as lifting and carrying items up to 45 pounds independently and heavier objects with assistance. The role may extend to operating a cash register, handling deliveries, and performing other related duties essential to food service operations.

Job Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the methods and procedures relating to food preparation in small quantities
  • Skill to apply food preparation information to cook a limited variety of prepared foods
  • Ability to read and understand written food service material such as food labels and standardized recipes
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations for recipe adjustments and serving calculations
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of various foods such as color, flavor, consistency, texture, temperature, and cooking time required
  • Skill in planning, coordinating and timing the sequence of cooking steps to have all menu items ready at the specified time

Job Duties

  • Perform a full range of simple cooking tasks by preparing and cooking items requiring little or no processing such as pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and fresh or canned vegetables
  • Prepare all forms of hot cereals
  • Broil meats
  • Prepare and cook concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies
  • Make cold sandwich fillings
  • Unload food from delivery trucks and move heavy garbage cans
  • Operate cash register and be responsible for own change fund
  • Lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs independently and objects over 45 lbs with assistance
  • Perform other related duties as required
