The Cook position at Good Shepherd Children & Family Services plays a vital role in enhancing the wellbeing of residents and staff through nutritious and carefully prepared meals. This role is crucial in supporting the mission by ensuring that children and employees receive wholesome food that meets dietary needs and preferences, including accommodations for food allergies and special requirements. The Cook will prepare meals primarily following the agency’s menu and recipes, baking breads and pastries, making salads and desserts, and cooking meals from scratch as needed. Additionally, the role involves grocery and supply management, cleaning and maintaining kitchen hygiene, and adhering to health department and USDA standards.
This position operates under the supervision of the Director of Food Services and requires a strong commitment to the values and ethical standards of the agency, reflecting its Catholic foundation. The Cook must be attentive to dietary details, efficient in meal preparation and service, and proactive in keeping the kitchen organized and well-stocked. Participation in ongoing trainings and compliance with safe food handling certifications are integral aspects of the job.

Job Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age
- possess a valid driver’s license
- have reliable access to an automobile
- hold valid automobile insurance
- have a high school diploma, GED, or technical school education
- possess 3-6 months related experience and/or training
- be team oriented and able to work independently
- hold a sanitation certificate or safe food handling certificate
- complete Safe Environment Program – Arch Diocese of St Louis
- have received Hepatitis A vaccination series 1 and 2
- pass background checks

Job Duties
- Prepare food in quantities according to menu and recipes
- communicate with staff regarding food allergies or special needs
- bake bread and pastry
- prepare salads and desserts
- cook lunch and dinner meals including weekend hot meals
- serve lunch meals
- fill special orders and keep records
- clean dishes and kitchen area
- stock food in storage rooms, refrigerators, freezer
- stock dining room utensils, paper products, cleaning supplies
- ensure compliance with health department and USDA requirements
- check in deliveries for accuracy and condition
- perform assigned duties from Director of Food Services
- participate in agency peer record reviews
- attend staff meetings and training
- perform other duties as assigned
