We are currently seeking a dependable and growth-oriented Cook to join our team of Employee Owners at this premier senior living community in Boston, MA. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the well-being and happiness of our senior residents by preparing high-quality, flavorful meals with care and precision. The successful candidate will be responsible for ingredient preparation, recipe execution, maintaining food safety standards, and guaranteeing that every dish served meets or exceeds the established thresholds for quality, presentation, and overall resident satisfaction. Reporting directly to the Director of Hospitality, the Cook plays a critical role in daily kitchen operations and service excellence. This role offers a $750 sign-on bonus as part of the compensation package and is ideal for individuals passionate about culinary arts and community service within a supportive and dynamic team environment.

The Cook will engage in preparing food items adhering to standardized recipes and daily prep list instructions to ensure timely production, delivery, and service aligned with residents’ special dietary needs and preferences. They will be accountable for serving meals, guaranteeing correct portioning, temperature, and visual appeal, and for executing menu items as directed by Sous and Executive Chefs. Efficiency during busy meal periods is crucial, along with maintaining impeccable cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen. Proper storage or disposal of excess food following food safety protocols is essential, and the role requires upkeep of refrigerators and storerooms to high cleanliness standards. Additionally, the Cook will operate and maintain kitchen equipment under guidance, ensuring a safe and efficient kitchen workflow.

  • Must be able to multi-task and resolve issues simultaneously without sacrificing quality or safety
  • Culinary experience desired, ideally in a senior living, hospitality, or similar setting
  • Experience working as a line cook preferred
  • Servsafe Food Handler or Food Manager certification preferred
  • Possess understanding of cooking methods, procedures, and proper knife handling skills
  • Above all, a positive attitude and willingness to learn and follow instructions so that you may become independent in your work

Job Duties

  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and daily prep list instructions to meet production, delivery, and service schedules for a population with diverse needs and preferences
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature, and is attractive and tasty
  • Responsible for the preparation of menu items as assigned by the Sous and Executive Chef(s)
  • Able to meet established food preparation times during busy meal periods
  • Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation
  • Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures
  • Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat
  • Ensures food is stored per standards
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed
