Job Description

Encompass Health is a nationally recognized leader in inpatient rehabilitation, committed to providing superior patient care and fostering a positive work environment for its employees. With over 150 locations across the United States and a dedicated team of more than 36,000 professionals, Encompass Health has earned prestigious accolades such as being named one of the "World's Most Admired Companies" and receiving the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For Award. The company prides itself on its inclusive culture that embraces diversity and equality, ensuring a respectful and supportive workplace for everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other protected status.

As a cook at Encompass Health, you will play a vital role beyond just food preparation. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to patient care by preparing therapeutic and modified diets tailored specifically to patients’ health requirements. Instead of a traditional restaurant or culinary setting, this role situates you in a healthcare environment where your culinary skills directly enhance patients’ recovery and well-being. You will be responsible for ensuring all meals meet strict dietary guidelines while maintaining high standards of taste, texture, temperature, and presentation. Encompass Health values teamwork and supports your professional growth through continuous education, tuition reimbursement programs, and career advancement opportunities.

This position welcomes individuals passionate about cooking who wish to align their skills with a meaningful purpose. Whether working full-time or part-time, you will benefit from competitive and affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance plans that extend to your family members. Generous paid time off policies allow for work-life balance, and company matching 401(k) and employee stock purchase plans help secure your financial future. Flexible spending accounts and health savings accounts are also available, making it easier to manage your health care expenses. Starting your career as a cook at Encompass Health means joining a vibrant community of professionals dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

In this role, you will handle responsibilities such as apportioning food servings according to prescribed menu combinations or patient orders, following recipes and menu guidelines accurately, serving precise portion sizes, and timing meal preparation to ensure optimal food satisfaction. Your work will involve strict adherence to all food safety regulations including HACCP standards to maintain the highest hygiene and safety practices in the kitchen. The position requires adaptability to work various shifts including weekdays, weekends, evenings, or nights to meet operational deadlines. Previous experience in institutional cooking or special function cooking is highly desirable, as is training in preparing therapeutic diets. Furthermore, depending on your location, possession of a valid food handler's permit may be required.

Encompass Health truly embodies a culture of empathy, integrity, and positivity, and is a workplace where you can be proud to share your culinary talents in a way that directly helps others on their road to recovery. If you are seeking a fulfilling career that combines your passion for cooking with meaningful service, this cook opportunity at Encompass Health offers a supportive and rewarding environment to grow both personally and professionally.
