This particular role is for a Cook position located within a jail/correctional facility at the Erie County Juvenile Detention Center. The Cook plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and accurate preparation of diverse food items in compliance with food safety regulations and assigned menu guidelines. This position requires a solid understanding of food handling procedures and demonstrated skill in preparing both hot and cold dishes using standardized knife techniques. Working inside a correctional environment entails unique challenges, including the need to remain calm and effective under pressure and to possess quick problem-solving abilities. The Cook must be adept at managing their station, interpreting recipes accurately, and collaborating effectively with team members to deliver meals in a timely manner. Ideal candidates will exhibit a passion for food and service, a strong desire to learn and adapt, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year of cooking experience
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Prior kitchen or cafeteria experience preferred
  • Familiarity with safety procedures in food service
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepare a variety of food items in accordance with work instructions and menus
  • Follow food safety and handling procedures
  • Use kitchen utensils and equipment safely including knives, ovens, stoves, slicers, and mixers
  • Manage assigned station and stock food products to maintain service flow
  • Comply with standardized portion sizes, cooking methods, and quality standards
  • Complete opening and closing checklists and daily prep lists
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
