Job Description

T. F. North High School is a recognized educational institution serving a high-needs school community, committed to providing quality education and comprehensive support to its students. The school fosters an inclusive environment that encourages both academic excellence and holistic development. With a focus on nurturing talent and building strong foundations, T. F. North High School supports diverse programs and activities aimed at enriching student lives and enhancing community engagement. The district values the contributions of its staff and is dedicated to maintaining a safe, supportive, and stimulating working environment.

The role available is a full-time Cafeteria Operations / Cafeteria Aide position, which plays a vital part in supporting the school’s daily food service operations. Reporting directly to the Chef or Sous-Chef, the individual in this position is responsible for preparing nutritious meals that adhere to strict nutritional standards, ensuring that both students and staff receive quality food service across the 2026-2027 school term. Operating in a non-exempt capacity, the position requires an individual who is physically able to perform tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and managing food storage while observing food safety protocols. The position offers a competitive wage of $17.00 to $18.70 per hour, dependent upon the candidate’s education and verified experience, along with IMRF pension benefits, paid breaks including lunch, sick and personal days, and other fringe benefits as dictated by the current negotiated agreement.

This role is crucial for the smooth and safe operation of the cafeteria. Duties include the preparation, seasoning, and cooking of various menu items like soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts. The Cafeteria Aide may occasionally act as a substitute cashier, handling transactions accurately and responsibly. Maintaining a clean and sanitized work area and equipment is paramount to minimize health risks. The position also involves accepting and properly storing deliveries, trash removal, and performing additional duties as assigned to ensure the success of daily operations. Candidates are expected to have completed required food handler training as per Illinois standards and comply with local, state, and federal health laws. The school is looking for applicants who demonstrate strong commitment to food safety and quality service, possess essential math and reading skills, and are capable of working in a moderate noise environment while occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.

This exciting opportunity is ideal for candidates with a background or interest in culinary arts, baking and pastry, culinary management, or related fields, and who are eager to contribute to the school community by ensuring that every meal served is safe, tasty, and nourishing. The school encourages applicants who are dedicated, reliable, and attentive to detail to apply. T. F. North High School remains open until the position is filled, reflecting its commitment to finding the right fit to enrich its team and support the student body effectively.
