Job Description

As part of a well-established school district, this institution emphasizes the importance of nutritional standards and healthy meal options to promote overall wellness and academic performance. The school operates a cafeteria service that caters to both students and staff, ensuring daily meals meet rigorous health and safety guidelines. Recognizing the critical role of nutritious food in fostering learning and growth, the school prioritizes hiring professionals committed to excellence in food preparation and service.

In line with its commitment to quality, T. F. North High School is currently seeking a full-time Cafeteria Operations/Cafeteria Aide for the 2026-2027 school term. This role reports directly to the Chef/Sous-Chef and involves a variety of important responsibilities centered around meal preparation, service, and sanitation. The successful candidate will play an integral role in maintaining the standards of the cafeteria by preparing meals daily according to nutritional guidelines, assisting in food production, and contributing to a clean and safe kitchen environment.

The Cafeteria Aide must be physically capable of performing essential duties such as standing or walking for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds, demonstrating stamina and strength crucial to the fast-paced nature of the role. This position requires a high level of commitment to quality food service and adherence to all local, state, and federal health regulations, including the completion of Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Food Handler Training within 30 days of employment and every three years thereafter.

Responsibilities also extend beyond meal preparation to include cashier duties, stock handling, and sanitation, ensuring comprehensive support of cafeteria operations. This job offers a starting wage range from $17.00 to $18.70 per hour, depending on education and experience, and incorporates benefits such as an IMRF pension, paid breaks including a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute intervals, sick and personal days, as well as generous fringe benefits governed by the current negotiated agreement. Evaluations will be conducted annually in accordance with local union agreements and board policies.

This opportunity is ideal for individuals with post-secondary education in culinary arts, baking and pastry, culinary management, or related fields, although equivalent experience is also considered. It is vital for candidates to have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess basic math skills, and be able to follow and communicate cooking instructions effectively. Committed professionals dedicated to upholding food safety standards and delivering excellent meal service will find this role rewarding within a supportive educational community setting.
