The Open Cook position at Dial is essential in maintaining the highest standards of food quality and safety while catering to the individualized needs of senior residents. This role involves independent meal preparation and food production management under the guidance of a Sous or Executive Chef. The Cook plays a vital role in delivering delicious, well-presented meals that meet dietary requirements and enhance the dining experience of each resident. Responsibilities include adapting recipes, monitoring food supplies, ensuring sanitary conditions, and participating in menu planning, all while upholding strict food safety regulations. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting
- strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines
- familiarity with state food-handling and kitchen regulations
- ability to operate kitchen appliances including dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer
- ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation
- alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes
- ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving
- identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor
- participate in new menu and special menu planning
- maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas
- ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control
- prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery
- ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients
- assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed
- notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances
- assist in the recording of Ready-to-Use food items into the TELS website
- record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website
- report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs
- maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel
- other duties as assigned
