The Cook position at HMSHost is a vital role responsible for preparing a variety of cooked foods across multiple kitchen stations, including fryers, flat top griddles, pantry preparations, and egg cooking. This non-exempt position generally reports to the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager, depending on location. The Cook ensures high food quality and safety while maintaining efficient kitchen operations. Essential duties involve following detailed recipes, seasoning and seasoning foods accurately, taste testing throughout the cooking process, and presenting dishes for service with attention to quality and appearance. The role also includes maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and equipment in compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) standards. Operating kitchen machines safely, managing inventory through rotation and temperature checks, and accurately estimating food requirements are also critical.

Ideal candidates for this position will have at least one year of cooking experience, preferably in high-volume, casual dining restaurant environments, and a solid knowledge of food preparation techniques across different cooking methods such as sauté, broiling, frying, and pantry work. The Cook must be physically capable of standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 pounds, and working in a fast-paced, hot kitchen environment.   • Ability to converse comfortably with customers

Job Duties

  • Follow recipes and product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving food items
  • Communicate ticket times and potential problems to the manager and servers
  • Provide the highest quality of service to customers and associates
  • Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment
  • Practice excellent food safety and sanitation practices and comply with HACCP standards
  • Operate a variety of kitchen equipment
  • Measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables
  • Stock, date, rotate, and check temperature of product
