Job Description

St. Charles Health System is a comprehensive healthcare provider committed to creating America’s healthiest community together. With a dedication to love, compassion, and excellence, St. Charles Health System operates with a clear mission to provide better health, better care, and better value to its patients and community. The organization upholds its core values of accountability, caring, and teamwork while continuously striving to maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. Their Food Services Department is a vital and high-volume segment, responsible for delivering excellent food and beverage services including patient room service and cafeteria offerings. This department not only ensures nutritional needs are met but also supports the overall wellbeing and satisfaction of patients, staff, and guests through quality food preparation and service.

The Cook 2 position at St. Charles Health System is an essential role within the Food Services Department, focusing on the preparation of foods for patient line pantry and cafeteria services. This position requires preparing food items according to standardized recipes, established policies, and procedures, assuring safety, efficiency, and quality in food production and storage. The Cook 2 supports the department's high-volume food preparation with expertise in cooking techniques such as braising, roasting, sautéing, frying, and grilling, while adhering to quality standards and recipe compliance. The role involves working under the supervision of the Executive Chef or Food Services Supervisor and does not include direct supervisory responsibilities for other caregivers.

In addition to food preparation, this role requires maintaining cleanliness and organization to meet St. Charles Health System standards and Oregon Food Sanitation standards. The Cook 2 is responsible for operating and cleaning kitchen equipment, monitoring inventory, controlling food costs, minimizing waste, and following health department food code regulations. Interaction with food service caregivers is important to ensure food quality meets patient and café requests, and the Cook 2 must utilize computer applications, email, and MS Office tools for various reporting tasks.

This is a relief position with variable shifts, offering a competitive pay range of $21.53 to $27.56 per hour, along with differentials for relief, swing shifts, night shifts, and weekends. The position emphasizes teamwork, customer service, and continuous improvement with an energetic and enthusiastic approach to Lean principles. The Cook 2 plays a crucial role in supporting the overall vision and mission of St. Charles Health System by creating a safe, sanitary, and efficient food service environment while delivering high-quality meals that contribute to patient care and satisfaction.
