This full-time Cook position at RWJ Rahway Hospital offers an opportunity to contribute to the Dietary-Management department by preparing quality food for patients, visitors, and staff. The pay rate is $20.69 per hour, with work scheduled during daytime shifts including alternating weekends and weekdays. As a Cook, the successful candidate will be responsible for following HACCP and recipe standards rigorously to maintain high food safety and quality. The role demands knowledge of operating, maintaining, and cleaning various kitchen equipment such as meat slicers, roasting ovens, mixers, blenders, fryers, grills, broilers, and steamers. Accuracy in food portioning, monitoring food appearance, flavor, and temperature, and maintaining cleanliness and safety are key to the job. The Cook will prepare meals including breakfast, lunch, and grilled items according to production sheets, menus, and recipes, while skillfully managing inventory and food storage to ensure health regulations are met.

This position requires at least two years of cooking experience, with a ServSafe or food handlers certificate preferred. The candidate must be able to schedule and organize food preparation efficiently based on meal traffic and timing, and communicate portion adjustments clearly to the team. Working within a hospital dietary setting, precision and adherence to health standards are essential. Job Duties

  • Prepare quality food for patients, visitors, and staff following HACCP and recipe standards
  • Operate, maintain, and clean kitchen equipment including meat slicer, roasting ovens, mixers, blender, fryer, grills, broiler, and steamer
  • Ensure accuracy, appearance, temperature, and flavor of hot food items
  • Report amounts of food prepared and leftovers accurately
  • Portion foods properly to obtain correct yields
  • Clean cook's area and turn off all equipment at the end of the shift
  • Gather canned and frozen items as per production sheets using correct amounts
  • Cook breakfast, lunch, and grill items to order
  • Read and interpret production sheets, catering sheets, menus, and recipes
  • Replenish hot food on cafeteria counter and tray line maintaining continuous service
  • Adjust portions on recipe cards using conversion charts and communicate changes
  • Organize meal preparation timing based on traffic flow
  • Store foods properly maintaining required temperatures before, during, and after meals
