The role of Cook within CHA's Food Services Department at the Somerville Campus is a vital position focused on large-scale quantity cooking to support patients, staff, and visitors. The department is committed to preparing and serving delicious, healthy, and nutritious meals that meet various dietary needs and promote patient wellness and recovery. As a Cook, you will engage in preparing a variety of foods including meats, vegetables, fish, salads, soups, sauces, gravies, eggs, desserts, and breads using diverse cooking and preparation methods. This position involves adherence to strict food safety and sanitation standards to ensure all meals contribute positively to the healing environment.
This part-time position offers a work schedule of 24 hours per week, with shifts of either 4 or 8 hours between 5:30 am and 6 pm, including weekend and holiday work requirements. The Cook role includes responsibilities such as supervising less skilled food preparation duties, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of workstations and food storage areas like coolers and racks, and following standardized written recipes to ensure quality and consistency. The ideal candidate will have at least high school diploma or equivalent, prior food service experience, preferably two years in quantity food production, strong English communication skills, and knowledge or training in using food production equipment.
