This role of Cook at St. John's Home offers an exciting opportunity to join a team that values collaboration, quality, and care. As a per diem position, the Cook will play a vital role in preparing and producing meals for neighborhood residents, employees, and catering services. The Cook will be responsible for managing food production, ensuring compliance with food safety and health regulations, and supporting the daily operation of the kitchen. This position requires a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment, interact positively with elders and coworkers, and maintain high standards for food quality and kitchen cleanliness. The hourly pay for this role ranges from $18.25 to $22.00, commensurate with experience.
The Cook will be an integral part of providing nourishment and comfort through meals that cater to specialized dietary needs of the elders. The role involves various tasks including preparation of hot and cold foods in large quantities, assistance with catering functions, maintaining knowledge of OSHA and HACCP regulations, and completing daily inventory and ordering. The candidate must be prepared to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods, handling kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Job Requirements
- Able to lift bend and stand most of the day
- walking lifting carrying pulling pushing bending and reaching to accomplish tasks the ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- possible exposure to wet slippery surfaces
- working with hot ovens grease and steam using kitchen knives slicer and electric chopper
- utilizing cleaning agents
Job Qualifications
- 3 years experience working in a high-volume industrial kitchen required
- HS diploma or GED required associate degree in food service is preferred
- ability to read and follow recipes required
- ability to interact with elders and care for their needs
- embrace and exemplify St. John’s Brand Characteristics
- ServSafe certification preferred required within 12 mos from date of hire
Job Duties
- Preparation and production of food hot and cold in large quantities
- help produce food items for catered functions
- maintain working knowledge of regulatory requirements and practices such as OSHA and HACCP
- prepare food for elders who have specialized dietary needs
- complete daily food production
- implement daily and weekly cleaning schedule for all hot and cold production areas
- interact well with others and handle fast paced work
- help with other duties as needed that support St John’s mission vision and values
