Job Description
Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division is a vital part of the local judicial system dedicated to serving the needs of youth within the community. This division operates the Nicholas Residential Treatment Center (NRTC), which provides treatment and care for youth placed there and in detention facilities. The court is committed to upholding high standards of service, incorporating careful supervision, and delivering quality support services including food provision to youth and staff. As part of maintaining these high standards, the court employs skilled food service professionals to ensure nutritious, safe, and appealing meals are provided that meet established dietary and health regulations.
The part-time Cook position at the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court Juvenile Division is integral to the daily operation of the Nicholas Residential Treatment Center. This role requires preparing a variety of meals for both youth and staff in compliance with Ohio Department of Education (ODE) and Ohio Department of Youth Services (ODYC) requirements, as well as food service guidelines set by the State Health Department. Working under the supervision of the Food Service Supervisor, the cook will prepare meats, salads, breads, vegetables, fruits, desserts, and other menu items while following prescribed recipes and menus. Special attention is given to meeting youth dietary needs in accordance with guidance from qualified medical authorities, including preparing special meals for religious holidays and other specific dietary restrictions.
The cook must ensure all food is presented attractively and served safely adhering to sanitary methods throughout the food service line. Controlling food waste by strategic preparation and proper rotation of food products is also a crucial responsibility. Sanitary upkeep of the kitchen environment is mandatory, including cleaning and disinfecting food preparation surfaces and inspecting equipment regularly to maintain optimum hygiene and operational standards.
This position involves maintaining proper storage of food items at safe temperatures to prevent spoilage, as well as loading and securing food for transport to subsequent detention facilities. The cook ensures all meals reach their destinations on time, preserving meal quality and following all safety and sanitation protocols. Security and proper handling of kitchen utensils, including knives, are essential to comply with prescribed policies.
Candidates for this role should bring a solid understanding of institutional food preparation methods, nutrition, kitchen safety, and sanitary standards. The role demands someone capable of reading and following detailed menus and recipes accurately and who can foster positive relationships with youth and colleagues, representing the court with professionalism. Given the physical demands inherent to kitchen work, candidates should be prepared for extended periods of standing, walking, and manual dexterity for handling kitchen tools safely. This part-time opportunity provides 24 hours per week with a varied schedule underpay grade A5, defined as a non-exempt, unclassified position. The employed individual serves at the pleasure of the Administrative Judge, highlighting the role's importance in court operations.
