As a Food Service Worker at Sierra Nevada Job Corps Center, you will play a vital part in supporting the center's nutrition and food service operations. Your main task will be to prepare all center meals based on pre-planned menus to meet nutritional standards and ensure timely service to students, staff, and visitors. You will assist in instructing cook helpers and work-based learning students on safe and hygienic food preparation and serving practices, contributing to both their skills development and maintaining food safety standards. Maintaining the kitchen's clean, safe, and sanitary condition is also your responsibility, including care for kitchen equipment and ensuring compliance with health regulations. Besides routine food preparation, you will handle stockroom management by tracking commodity availability and recommending replenishment when necessary. The role may also include preparing foods for special center functions and visitors, requiring flexibility and attention to detail.
This position requires not only technical food handling skills but also a commitment to excellent customer service, as promoting a positive experience for everyone at the facility is essential. Working hours are full-time from 5:00 am to 1:30 pm with varied days and occasional overtime. Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year experience as a food handler
- Must possess a current ServSafe (Food Handler) Certification or obtain within 30 days of employment
- Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds
- A valid driver license with an acceptable driving record

Job Duties
- Prepare all center meals based on pre-planned menus in compliance with government and management directives
- Assist in instructing cook helpers and work-based learning students in safe, hygienic food preparation and serving methods
- Maintain kitchen equipment in orderly, workable condition and ensure work area is safe, clean, and sanitary
- Prepare foods for special center functions, visitors, and off-center assignments
- Assist in cleaning assignments to support cafeteria operations
- Manage stockroom commodities and recommend replenishment items
- Promote and support positive customer service throughout the facility
