As a Cook at Sodexo, you will hold a pivotal role in delivering a superior dining experience by preparing, cooking, and presenting a variety of hot and cold food items across all meal periods and events. This role demands adherence to Sodexo’s high culinary standards for quality, presentation, and consistency, ensuring that all food is prepared accurately, efficiently, and safely. Working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and organized workstation while supporting an effective kitchen team. The Cook I position is integral to Sodexo’s commitment to excellence in food service. Responsibilities include following current federal, state, and corporate food safety standards, utilizing recipes and product directions for diverse food preparation, and accurately estimating food requirements to manage supply requisitions effectively. Physical endurance is a key component, as the job requires the ability to stand or walk for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and handle lifting tasks comfortably up to 50 pounds.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience
  • 0 to 2 years of related work experience
  • knowledge of basic operation of equipment and food-handling procedures preferred
  • ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • good working knowledge of food preparation
  • familiarity with kitchen equipment
  • must be able to read and follow a recipe unsupervised
  • ability to walk or stand for extended periods
  • ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull
  • frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
  • ability to perform repetitive motions
  • attend work and show for scheduled shift on time with satisfactory regularity

Job Duties

  • Prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • follow basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other foodstuffs for consumption in eating establishments
  • taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to accurately plan production requirements and requisition supplies and equipment
  • maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation
  • assist in effective kitchen teamwork and communication
  • uphold the highest standards of food safety and sanitation
  • other duties as assigned based on business needs and client requirements
