The Cook position at Cedarhurst is a vital role within the dining services team, reporting directly to the Dining Services Director. This role is responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious, and appetizing meals that meet or exceed the community's hospitality and service standards. The Cook ensures that individual dietary needs are met with precision, adherence to food safety regulations, and timely meal service. They participate actively in maintaining kitchen organization, upholding culinary excellence, and supporting new team members through training and mentorship. Collaboration with the Dining Services Director, kitchen staff, and other community departments is essential to foster a resident-centered dining experience that is welcoming and safe. The Cook plays a critical part in supporting the health and wellbeing of residents by adhering to strict infection control practices and food safety standards regulated by FDA, state, county, and local authorities. This role requires not only culinary skills but also strong communication and teamwork abilities to contribute positively to the overall environment at Cedarhurst Senior Living. Additionally, the Cook must be proficient in basic mathematical operations to manage portion control and food preparation efficiently. This position demands a commitment to quality, safety, and excellent service to enhance the dining experience and promote resident satisfaction and comfort.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas
  • occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, or balancing
  • effective communication and ability to identify/interpret written information
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance
  • follow infection prevention and control protocols including use of PPE when necessary
  • actively participate in staff activities to foster teamwork, unity, and morale
  • commitment to ongoing training and self-improvement
  • compliance with background check, drug screening, health assessments, and PPE use as required by company policy and law

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • at least one year experience as a cook is preferred
  • applicable state or county licensure required
  • food manager certification, or ability to obtain, is required
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred
  • demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable

Job Duties

  • Ensure the proper preparation, portioning, and serving of foods as indicated on the menu cycle and standardized recipes
  • taste and prepare food to determine quality
  • prepare all special dietary needs as directed by the Dining Services Director and or menus assigned
  • determine food and supplies needed and coordinate meal production with serving hours
  • assist with proper documentation of temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules
  • assist with orientation and training of new kitchen staff
  • handle food in a safe and appropriate manner
