This position is for a Cook who plays a crucial role in supporting the nutritional and health needs of children within the Volunteers of America Western Washington community programs. The Cook is responsible for the daily planning, preparation, and serving of nutritious meals and snacks, primarily breakfast and lunch, guided by the regulations of the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). This role is essential in maintaining food safety, kitchen cleanliness, and adherence to dietary guidelines that include culturally and ethnically appropriate menu options. The Cook collaborates closely with nutritionists, program managers, family support specialists, and classroom teachers to ensure all children’s food allergies and preferences are accommodated appropriately.
The Cook’s duties extend beyond meal preparation and service; they include detailed record keeping in line with USDA and CACFP requirements and managing inventory to ensure the availability of quality food and supplies within established budget constraints. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about food safety standards, holds a current Food Handler’s card, and possesses prior experience in catering to the nutritional needs of young children in group settings. This full-time position offers a comprehensive benefits package including vacation and sick leave, paid holidays and floating holidays, medical, dental, and vision insurance, health and flexible savings accounts, a free employee assistance program, retirement plan matching, and professional development opportunities.
Volunteers of America Western Washington promotes a healthy, inclusive work atmosphere and offers employees the tools and training necessary to succeed, including compliance with safety certifications like infant, child, and adult first aid/CPR, and ongoing training in infection control and safety protocols.
