Job Description
DuPage County is a governmental organization dedicated to serving the community through a variety of public services and programs. Located in Illinois, DuPage County operates numerous departments and facilities including health care, public safety, and human services. The county is committed to providing high-quality services, employee development, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. As a public employer, DuPage County ensures equal opportunity for all applicants and employees, promoting a fair and respectful working environment. The county also offers competitive benefits packages that support the health, well-being, and financial security of its workforce.
This job opportunity is for the Cook position within DuPage County, specifically assigned to the Care Center. Multiple positions are available, offering shifts from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm and 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, including every other weekend and rotating holidays. This role is essential in delivering nutritious and well-prepared meals to residents in the Care Center, contributing to their overall health and satisfaction. As a Cook, you will prepare a variety of dishes such as meats, poultry, eggs, soups, vegetables, salads, sauces, and baked goods using different cooking methods including frying, roasting, and baking. You will also provide guidance and direction to dining services employees, potentially supervising shifts, and assist in ordering food and supplies.
This position is eligible for a complete benefit package featuring medical, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, pension plans, deferred compensation plans, tuition reimbursement, pre-paid legal services, and access to credit union services. The role also grants time off with pay on designated holidays or holiday pay if working on those days, as well as vacation time, sick time, and personal days. Being a member of DuPage County means you benefit from a supportive work environment with opportunities for advancement and ongoing training to expand your skills. The position is part of the AFSCME (Care Center) Council 31 Bargaining Unit, ensuring collective representation and support.
Working as a Cook in this environment requires physical stamina and capability due to the nature of the tasks, which involve heavy work such as lifting up to 50 pounds and operating arm or leg controls. The work environment may expose employees to extreme temperature variations, and reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities. This role plays an integral part in the Care Center by preparing therapeutic and special meals as directed and ensuring safe food handling and proper food storage. The Cook also supports the serving line and assists with delivering catering orders to county buildings, fostering a smooth dining operation.
This position offers a meaningful way to contribute to the community while building a career in food service within a government facility. DuPage County encourages candidates who are dedicated to quality service, teamwork, and community wellbeing to apply. The organization values diversity and equal opportunity, making it an inclusive workplace for all qualified candidates.
